R Grant’s got this turquoise metalflake Laser 917 Kit (one of the early A-series cars — you can tell because it doesn’t have roll-under front or side panels, and has no quarter windows) on a 1966 VW Beetle pan and a late ‘65 engine. The body is currently off the car but it’s a very simple and quick process to remount it (basically you just bolt it back on). He says runs great and has many new components. He’s located in Milford, Ohio and is asking $3200 — you can email him at rgrant8816@zoomtown.com.

Alan writes in with the details on the Elite Enterprises Laser 917D that he’s selling,

Very nice series “D” Laser 917. Less than 6,000 miles on car.Car is in immaculate condition and should be seen. These cars look lighting fast just sitting still. Fly Yellow exterior, with black and yellow Recaro interior. Air adjustable ride?, Porsche livery throughout, Totally crazy CD stereo with all the bells, crossovers, amps etc., Remote rear TV monitor ( To aid backing up), push button start, original rims with like new tires, correct front bumper , Non adjustable rear wing, fogs( from Hummer) need relay, The fit and finish of this car is way above average and I would say one of the nicest I have ever seen. VDO gauges throughout, Dual port 1600cc flat four, remote oil filter and cooler, 4 speed transmission, Comes with good plastic all around, Plus one complete set of brand new perspex windows still covered in protective wrap. Not too rusty please!

Greg (who I think lives near Daytona Beach, Florida, but I might be wrong) is hoping some charitable person would be willing to donate a Beetle chassis for him to use under his rare Laser 917 Type A body… If that charitable person might be you, email him at wizerd917@myway.com. Yeah ladies, he’s looking at you.

A little while back I posted about Ken’s Laser 917 for sale — he just updated me with a few more pictures, and adds,

This cars interior needs to be redone (the last quote was five hundred). The engine is new with 500 miles on it. It has an awesome paint job with pinstriping, and this car turns heads. You can’t stop smiling when you drive a car like this. Ninety percent of the on-coming traffic is sitting on the edge of their seats checking out the car coming toward them. Its a great feeling, having something that puts a smile on people’s faces!

The last real Porsche 917 sold over the phone for $3.5 million. I think car collectors should wake up and snatch up these 1970s reproductions before they’re all gone. They even used one in a Herby Goes To Montecarlo movie! I’m proud to had this car for twenty-one years and it’s never seen rain or snow.

If you’re interested, write to Ken at stages_504@hotmail.com. Don’t worry, he’s not asking $3.5 million!

I can’t believe that between Clive and I we only took four almost identical photos of this cleanly and traditionally finished Elite Enterprises Laser 917 kitcar. It even has a factory bumper! I was sad to see only one at a show… I fear as time goes on, more and more Lasers share the same fate as mine, back-shelved in a barn somewhere, waiting for the day the owner retires (or gets divorced) and finally has the time to finish it…

…this finished one is owned by Mark Bidwell of Neptune City, NJ, and is built on a 1971 VW chassis.

I don’t know much about it’s history, but Ken (who I think is in the Washington DC region, or at least his ISP is) has had this car now for twenty one years (he traded it for his Mercedes), and before that it was in Germany (or so he was told). Anyway, it’s the last of his car collection that he’s selling off — if you’re interested, email him an offer at stages_504@hotmail.com.

I admit that I’m not personally sold on the color or the addition of the rear wing, but those are easy to change depending on whether you agree with me or not… Other than that, it looks like a very clean A-series (I think) Laser 917.
