Death Race 2000 inspired MTV car

This car inspired by Death Race 2000 was built on the MTV show Fast Inc in an episode (8; “Death Race 2006″) where Mean Magazine wanted to do a shoot inspired by the movie. Instead of using a 70s Vette like in the movie, they decided to go with a second generation Aztec kit car on a VW chassis. The car is located in the Las Vegas area and you can write MLTJD@aol.com if you’re interested (watch for it on eBay soon as well). It needs new glass and a new motor and paperwork.

Aztec II Project Update

Chris’s work on the Aztec GT II I’ve featured here a couple times before is going well — he sends in this update and as you can see the body is off, and the chassis and floor-pans (with drop-floors for more headroom) are totally rebuilt and powder-coated. He’s also moved the shifter back 5″ so it doesn’t hit the dash, and the engine is currently apart and being rebuilt (it’s a Claudes Buggies performance engine). He’s picked up some nice Centreline type rims, and is starting on the fiberglass work.

Fiberfab Aztec II GT For Sale

For an asking price of only $2,900, Fred in Reading, Pennsylvania has a beautiful purple Fiberfab Aztec II for sale (sorry, I messed up the color a little in the pictures — it’s purple not wine colored) for sale. The car is currently registered with vintage vehicle tags in Alabama as a “1962 Aztec” under the VW VIN. Unfortunately it’s not currently running, needing work on the pan and potentially more on the driveline. The fiberglass is in good shape, but the windshield (out of a ‘66 to ‘69 Corvette) will need to be replaced.

For someone willing to do the mechanical work, this is a beautiful rare car that be stunning if finished nicely.

Dave’s Aztec GT is for sale

Eric Martin’s Aztec GT

Long before FiberFab’s hit cars like the Avenger, there was the Aztec GT, and the car that would become the namesake of the Aztec 7 (due, they say, to its quality construction). It’s also probably one of the first kits to have gullwing doors.

Eric Martin, who runs (or ran; I’m not sure if the company still exists) the chassis manufacturer A&E — on whose custom chassis this originally VW kit is built — built up an aerokit for his Aztec GT, making it look far more produced and modern. It was done using urethane foam covered in fiberglass mat and cloth. I believe this was one of the first cars, if not the first car, that I ever posted to the site.
