A nice looking Fiberfab Aztec 7 with a great light treatment (redesigned front pods and an array of lights across the back) just got posted to eBay (#140255352417) in Marshall, Texas. The rear bumper/hatch is freshly repaired (as you can see in the pictures), so it will need to be repainted, the speedometer cable needs replacing, and a short somewhere in the electrical system is draining the battery, but other than that it’s said to be a solid car. It’s on a ‘71 VW pan with a Ghia motor (which they’d planned to convert to electric, but at 54mpg highway mileage, why bother?), but is currently registered as an ‘82 (presumably when the car was completed). One of the side windows has a crack in it, which the seller estimates as a $200 repair, but since it’s just flat plexi, it should actually cost quite a bit less than that — only the front windshield in an Aztec 7 is an expensive repair since it’s out of a Lamborghini Muira. The car comes with manuals and paperwork (receipts, letters, etc) and is up with a “buy it now” price of $4,800 which seems like about the right price for this car.
This beautiful second-generation Fiberfab Aztec 7, built exactly as it was designed to be built with a clean and original look, is currently up on eBay (#260266224423) in Kingman, Arizona. It’s barely been driven, and has a dual carb 1835cc engine (which is good, since it’s had an A/C system added, a rarity in VW-based kit cars). The body and interior both look solid, and it comes with all the manuals and every receipt since 1978… For anyone looking for a classic Aztec 7, this is one of the nicest ones you’ll see.
This Fiberfab Aztec 7B is being listed in Helena, Montana for $2,500 (with all fair offers considered) and rides on a VW pan with an aluminum Buick 215 V8 mated to the VW transmission. The bad news is that the windshield (a valuable commodity since it comes from a Lamborghini Muira) has a hole knocked in it. If you’d like to make Shane an offer you can write him at Wbadcat69@bresnan.net.
Tanya has posted a giant set of VW-related vehicles to her Flikr set, all for sale for her father Robert (click the link for his number). The set includes a Gazella, and MG, a Beetle with square-light widebody fenders, a dunebuggy, a Thing, and more, including this very very dirty first-gen Fiberfab Aztec 7… Given its state of cleanliness, at first glance it looks very recoverable and solid. It’s located in Florida if you’d like to go check it out.
Seth has what I think is one of the nicest, cleanest looking Fiberfab Aztec 7’s on the market, and it’s currently up for sale in a no-reserve eBay auction (#250261020174). His car is located in Lynchburg, VA, and the auction is currently at a mere $761 (it ends next Wednesday). If I was going to bid on an Aztec 7, this one would definitely be getting my attention, and I think whoever gets this will be quite happy. Personally I think this one is worth somewhere in the $10,000 range.

As I mentioned, this example looks super-clean with a nice by-the-book finish on the car, although they’ve fixed what I think is the design’s one Achilles heel, the ultra-ugly and somewhat immense light pods (check them out on the Aztec 7 a few entries down from this one). His headlights have been relocated to the tip of the nose. It hasn’t driven since 2002 — this is another “barn find” — but it seems to be a pretty solid example and I can’t imagine it would take much time or money to get it into a daily driver state. It’s registered as a “1992 Reconstruction”, so it’s got a nice kitcar title rather than just being registered as a Beetle.
Continue reading after the break for a big gallery of pictures of the car.
Both of these Aztec 7’s have my favorite accessory, a roof-mounted stereo. Leon’s (the white one) has a custom enclosure for a standard unit, but Corey’s (the dark one) has a rare stereo designed for this placement.
Dave recently sold his Aztec GT (to a guy that builds tube racing chassis, so maybe we’ll see something exciting), and sent in some pictures of his other projects, including his blue Avenger that he drove from TN to Carlisle for the annual kit car show, and his white Aztec 7 that he drove to Indy for the kit car Run and Gun — perfectly capable of keeping up with the Cobras. He’s now putting together another Aztec 7, which he may build around a VW fuel injection system of his own design — 50+ mpg with any luck.
