Invader GT5 History

I wanted to share these old promotional pictures from the now defunct Autokit Industries of Oakland, California (the last I heard, and this was some time ago, Kaylor Kit, who specialize in electric vehicles held the molds for an updated version). Anyway, it’s of course a VW based kit, and could be bought factory built for $4,300 (1976), or in kit form for $2,895.

Like I said, I think it’s actually a pretty car, but you have to shoot it from the right angle because it’s a monstrosity otherwise… You gotta love the posed pictures though.

You know I can’t help but wonder if the Invader was styled by or styled after the Probes 15 and 16 and other such things made by the Adams brothers in the UK.
The Invaders always stuck me as a bit but not much better looking Bradley .
    Cheers,

I just got a Invader GT5 for free. It doesn’t have an engine or transmission and I’m planning to restore it soon. I’m wondering where I may be able to get some replacement doors for it. Theres a chunk missing from the lexan door which I need repaired or replaced. Dan Yarger 818-967-6548
Btw owners of these extremely rare cars should unite in national registry in an effort to estimate how many of these cars still exist.
