You never know what you’ll find in a field!
Jim found this partial kit bured in a junkyard in Maryland, sitting on a VW chassis. Asking price was $500, so Jim wanted to know what it was… It seems to be a FiberFab Jamaican. Edit/Oops: No, it’s an Amante GT!
To put that a little more into context, here’s John’s very in-progress Jamaican. His was built around a Karman-Ghia chassis with a tube chassis laid over top of it. I actually think he’s sold it since, but in these photos he’s about $4000 into the project. I wish I had a better set of photos of a Jamaican to show you today — it’s a beautiful, classy and ahead-of-its time car.

well it kinda looks like a Jamaican by FiberFab. I have one on a VW chassis, and My Jamaican looks like the red one on the bottom. The back Glass area is different and the side Vanes next to the door glass are different, and so are the headlight areas.
I actually have three now
one Jamaican
one Kelmark Gt
and one Diablo on the way
I’m 99% sure it’s a Jamaican, but I think there are a few variants on it out there.
just found a jamaican with the 4 in the rear VERy EXCITED waht do we have here>!?!?!??!?!?!? David
It’s an amante gt no question.
I was browsing your site in search of info for my car and I saw this car. I own one and it is not a Jamaican it is an Amante GT built by fiberfab.
My question is for danny or anyone who might know, what windshield fits in the Fiberfab Amante GT? I have had nothing but trouble trying to locate any info on this car. Thanks
It appears that I spoke too soon. Although there were people from Fiberfab involved, it was considered to be built by Voegele Industries. I’ve been in contact with the designer of the car and I am learning more as we go.
1969 Amante GT,
According to people in the know only 150 bodies were produced. I just found one for myself.
Windshield 66 Rambler?, door flat safety glass, rear custom.
Correction, my car is called a Gazelle, it has the same body, but no overhear console and square headlamps. Only 27 were made before the change to Amante. Sweet. I will send “as purchased” photos soon. John
WOW! I’m very excited to learn more about this! I picked up my AmanteGT 7 years ago, and 2 days ago I got a Karmann Ghia that I’ll use to rebuild my Amante!
I have a TON of info in storage somewhere on it. The guy I got it from kept everything. It was a custom made electric car when I got my hands on it, but will soon be good ol’ fossil fuel again this year.
